These Vixen eyepieces use eight lenses - 65 degree apparent field of view (72 degrees in the 42mm 2” model). They use lanthanum (rare earth glass) lenses to minimize chromatic aberrations and astigmatism and provide a very long 20mm eye relief for eyeglass use, even in the 3.5mm model.
Excellent for deep space vistas.
NLV Series eyepieces from Vixen feature long 20mm eye relief and Lanthanum glass to minimize aberrations. The eyepiece lenses are fully multicoated. Comes with a retractable eye shield for better views! These Japanese-made models are suited to glass-wearers and people who don't want to spend a fortune to get research-level eyepieces!
Recommended for observations at medium to high power.
Vixen's updated Plossl range. They provide excellent image quality with good eye releif. Excellent general purpose eyepieces which deliver high contrast and pinpoint sharpness out to the edge of the field.
Apparent field of view is 50 degrees.
(40 deg. for 40mm)
20,25,30 &40mm feature twist up eyecup.
Recommended for all observing targets.
Four element design, once considered the best all-round eyepiece, narrow field of view. It has excellent sharpness, colour correction and contrast. Longer eye relief than Kellner's.
Suitable for planetary and lunar observations.
Three element design eyepiece, it gives sharp bright images at low to medium powers. Best used on small to medium sized telescopes, Kellner's have an apparent field of about 40 degrees and good eye relief, though short at high powers.
Good low cost performer.
Since the eyepiece is of great importance in determining the magnification of an astronomical telescope, sooner or later you will want to include at least a few of these accessories.
Basically the eyepiece is a magnifying lens used to enlarge the image produced by a telescope.
Eyepieces vary in quality and sophistication, economical eyepieces may be made up with as few as three elements while more sophisticated designs may have four or up to eight elements of precisely ground glass elements contained within a metal cylinder.
Areas of consideration include:
Magnification (the telescope's focal length in mm divided by the size of the eyepiece)
Field of View (the area that can be seen through the telescope)
Eye Relief (spacing between the lens of the eyepiece nearest to the observer and the observer's eye)
Quality of Image (this can range from adequate to excellent)
A simple search for 'astronomical eyepieces' on any web search engine will return a wealth of detailed information on such subjects.
Our selection of eyepieces has evolved over the years and we offer what we consider to be the finest available in their respective fields.
