Best 150mm for high power views of the moon and planets
Ideal introductory telescope. As with all our Dobsonians, easy to set up, simplicity to use. The OD150L is the most dedicated planetary and lunar model of our Dobsonian 150mm range. Being f11 with a minute 25mm secondary flat, you are guaranteed exceptional high resolution, high magnification views. Weighing less than 15 Kg, it is an ideal quick set up instrument where set up time is a premium. The mounting is made from aluminium plate, similar to that used in aircraft production and is incredibly strong and coated with hard polymer for scratch resistance.
One of the special features on our OD Dobsonians is the ability for existing owners of our OTAs or even competitor's OTAs to be able to just drop their tube straight into one of our mounts. A further tremendous advantage is the ability to exactly balance the tube to avoid it moving with the weight of added equipment, large eyepieces, cameras, large finders etc. This is a feature only current, or past owners of Dobsonians are all to familiar with. Typical Dobsonian designs are renowned for the tube swinging down when equipment, even of the slightest weight, is added. To avoid this, elaborate devices are often used which seldom work properly. More common is to increase the drag on the declination axis thus increasing the drag on those bearings and, as a consequence, creating a severe problem in not allowing smooth adjustment of the telescope's position. With the use of our fully adjustable tube cradles and PTFE bearing surfaces you have the capability of adjusting the balance point exactly to accompany the additional equipment you may have added. For users who wish to have total control, we offer an optional variable friction brake.
