M81 & M82 - a first colour
image from a new AG12
Added 9 March 2011
This stunning detailed image of M81 and M82 is the first colour image taken with Peter Shah's new AG12. Exposure time is approx. 9 hours, including Luminance and Ha frames.
The image shows some of the integrated flux nebula or galactic cirrus, which is extremely faint and is rarely seen, hence the long exposure.
Click the image to see the full resolution version . . . its worth it for the amount of detail shown.
This is, no doubt, just one of many great images to come from this talented UK Astroimager.

Sergio Eguivar - Argentina![]()
Fantastic image taken with 6" Optics!
This recent image form Sergio Eguivar in
Buenos Aires, Argentina is proof of the excellent quality of our Optical Components. Sergio uses our Optics in a hybrid telescope and his results are outstanding.
GUM 15 is located in the north west part of the Constellation Vela. It is right in the middle of two bigger objects: RU 64 and GUM 17. GUM 15 also hosts Collinder 197 a young Galactic Star Cluster with high velocity dispersion. The central region shows dark patches of obscure dust is known as SL2.
The picture was taken from a dark site with the scope 50 meters away from a local car route.
Amateur Astronomers in general would assume that such images would not be possible with small aperture telescopes but this and other images by Sergio certainly proves the point! Well done Sergio and Dark skies!

Arie Nagel is an early retired Professor of Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation and devotes the bulk of his time now to astrophotography. He is also one of the editors of Zenit, a Dutch Astronomy magazine
www.dekoepel.nl/zenit/english.html
He lives in Eindhoven, Netherlands with his wife Cocky. His observatory is nearby, in Heeze.
Arie currently operates with an OOUK CT12L and uses SBIG ST-8300, SBIG ST-10 and modified Canon 40D cameras on an Astro Techniek Mount (Ad Matthijs, Velden, Netherlands www.astrotechniek.net) and can carry 200 kg of equipment! and has a periodic error of 2-3" peak to peak and "it's a beauty in the Dutch national colours". Arie says "I am very happy with my Orion Optics scope!"
Thank you for sharing your images and we wish you dark skies.

Image Notes:
Clavius: with 30 cm @ F/16.5, with 3 x Televue Barlow; DMK BF21 camera; the resulting avi with several thousands of pictures was processed with Registax and Photoshop.
NGC6992: Veil Nebula. 11 x 10 min with Canon EOS 40D and 30 cm newton @ 1156 mm, ISO 800.
M13: Bernard Miller and I merged our M13's - his colorful M13 (2 hours with a TEC 140) and my luminance 2.5 hours with a 300/1156 newton; 5 subs of 720 sec, once 480 sec and 18 subs of 300 sec.
NGC281: Pacman nebula, 5 x 30 min with 30 cm newton @ 1156 mm, ST-10XME, 3 nm H-alpha filter.
I merged this picture with the colours by Jim Thommes.
For the result, see: www.astronomie.be/apn/picdeep-ha.htm
NGC2237: Part of the Rosette nebula, 4 x 30 min with 30 cm newton @ 1156 mm, ST-10XME, 3 nm H-alpha filter.
IC434: Horsehead, 5 x 30 min with 30 cm newton @ 1156 mm, ST-10XME, 3 nm H-alpha filter.
M45: Pleiades with 30 cm newton @ 1156 mm. The frame of the Canon EOS 40D was too small for the whole cluster, so it was photographed in two parts: each part was exposed 8 times 10 min. ISO 800.
M31 / M110: 8 x 10 min with newton 30 cm @ 1156 mm and modified Canon 40D.

Ever since he was young, Giovanni has loved the sky and its amazing secrets and ancient lights. Born in Cesena (Italy) in 1969 he is an active astronomer with the Cesena Society for Astronomy for 4 years now.
Giovanni started this hobby as a visual observer of the sky with a 12" dobson, he then changed attention to astro-photography. Giovanni decided to turn to fast newtonians and astro-graphs because of their high performance tubes and ability to capture and optimize exposure timings.

Ezequiel Bellocchio - Argentina![]()

I live in Buenos Aires and my passion for astronomy began from childhood.
My enthusiasm for astrophotography started some years ago.
I am most interested in relatively small objects that requires long focal length and good quality optics. In addition the telescope should be light and handy to transport to dark sky locations.
The ODK10 easily coupled those needs and is giving a lot of satisfaction. It is a telescope I should keep for a lifetime!
