NEWS: Web Site Changes.

Added 18th October 2010.
Updated: 3rd December 2010.

Firstly:

We are experiencing an incredible amount of orders from around the World and, as we have finite space within our factory, we have to increase throughput to try and accommodate these high levels of orders, particularly optics. We will be removing from our optics ranges several of the less popular items to allow us to dedicate more production time to the popular, high volume products. We have been as liberal as we can be in maintaining as many different optical sets as possible in our range.

Secondly:

As everyone in the UK knows, our VAT rate increases to 20% from the 4th January 2011. We have no way of knowing if this is a temporary or permanent measure. If it is temporary, the point at which it changes again, hopefully back to 17.5%, is an unknown fact, I doubt if the government know at this point.
The website is currently set for 17.5% but will change as and from 4th January 2011 to 20%.

So, in a move to make the web site less prone to amendments for VAT changes and, to allow customers outside the EU to know what the product prices are, we now have set prices to Ex-VAT. VAT will be added where appropriate but ignored for non EU members. The process of ignoring VAT for non EU members will be done, as now, when we receive the on line order.

Finally:

We have decided that we are going to rationalize our telescope ranges of Europa, SPX and Dobsonians to allow many more components used in these models to be common. CT, AG and ODK will not be affected in any way. We have spent a great deal of time looking at methods of doing this whilst still keep flexibility to satisfy as many customers as possible but, the rationalization process will remove several products, particularly the less popular, lower volume items.

To do this, we are introducing a range of optical tubes (VX RANGE) whose specifications can be easily be followed and upgraded where shown. The base level for all the range is as follows:

This specification applies to the basic optical tube to which you will have the ability to add a 10:1 precision adjuster to the focuser, upgrade the supplied 1/6PV optics to either 1/8or 1/10PV and, select, if required a mounting from our range, the price of which includes the correct counterweights and attachment plates for the optical tube. The optical tube, if required, can be purchased without any mounting.

The page displaying these options (VX Comparison Chart) on our web site will show all the tube apertures and, focal ratios applicable to that aperture. There will then be boxes which you can check to allow you to see what value your order would be if you decided to place it with the items checked. When you have tried a few possible selections on this page, you can then click the appropriate button to send you to the next stage where you can actually buy the combination of features, tube and mounting. To ensure no one can possibly order incorrectly the wrong aperture upgrade etc, the ‘Buy’ page will ask you to confirm exactly which features you wish to add to the selected tube, again giving you a running total of your order.

The procedure is simplicity itself and, it gives anyone the opportunity to compare prices, features and apertures directly to enable a fully informed choice of instrument to be made.

PLEASE NOTE: The above Changes are now in operation.

We hope these major transitions are without snags but, we feel there may be one or two anomalies which, with your help, we can rectify immediately.

This announcement has also been posted on the OOUK Newsgroup.

Added 04 Jan 2010. Another great image from Peter Shah with his OOUK AG8 Astrograph. This image of NGC 2237, 2238, 2239 and 2246 - The Rosette Nebula, was taken with 80 mins in h-alpha, 50 mins in sulpher II, and 30 mins in oxygen III. Although the Rosette nebula is not very bright - it is much too faint to see with the naked eye - it has a striking circular shape resembling a flower. The Rosette nebula is in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy and has a young star cluster at its centre.
