The ODK12Tr Truss Optimised Dall-Kirkham Telescope is our high-performance 300mm (12-inch) model, custom-engineered for serious astrophotographers and researchers who require exceptional light-gathering power without compromising structural stability. Hand-crafted and optically figured to exact tolerances in the UK, this optical tube assembly (OTA) sets a benchmark for premium deep-sky imaging.
Ultra-Stable Truss Design & Thermal Control
The ODK12Tr features an advanced open carbon fibre sandwich truss framework. Weighing approximately 19kg, this specialized open structure completely eliminates mechanical flexure across varying imaging orientations. By utilizing carbon fibre’s near-zero coefficient of thermal expansion, the telescope maintains a precise focal point through significant nocturnal temperature drops, removing the need for constant automated refocusing runs.
Professional Optical Performance & Wide Field
Equipped with a precision 300mm primary mirror and a built-in, multi-coated 3-lens corrector, this system delivers an optimal f/6.8 focal ratio and a 2040mm focal length. The corrected optical design produces remarkably tight star profiles—boasting an ultra-sharp spot size of just 1.8µm on axis and maintaining a pinpoint 5.6µm at the very edge of a massive, flat field spanning greater than 52mm. This ensures full compatibility with the largest modern, large-format CCD and CMOS imaging sensors without visible aberration or vignetting.
