The ODK14Tr Truss Optimised Dall-Kirkham Telescope represents a serious step up in astronomical imaging capability, engineered specifically at our UK facility in response to astrophotographers worldwide demanding our acclaimed ODK optics in an open truss format.
Sitting perfectly between the highly portable ODK12Tr and our observatory-grade ODK16Tr, the 350mm (14-inch) ODK14Tr strikes the ultimate balance: a telescope manageable by one or two people that still delivers massive light grasp for serious deep-sky imaging and academic research.
Open Carbon Fibre Truss Design
Built using an advanced carbon fibre sandwich truss framework, the ODK14Tr ensures total structural rigidity. This specialized material expands and contracts far less than aluminium or steel when ambient night temperatures drop. By maintaining absolute focus stability across long-exposure imaging sequences, it eliminates structural flexure and focus drift.
Elite Research-Grade Optics
The ODK14Tr features a fast f/6.8 focal ratio paired with a generous 2380mm focal length, making it a spectacular instrument for capturing fine details in planets, the Moon, globular clusters, and distant galaxies. An integrated, multi-coated 3-lens corrector delivers pinpoint star profiles down to an exceptionally tight 2.1µm on axis and 5.6µm at the field edge. This creates an incredibly sharp, fully corrected flat field of over 52mm to perfectly illuminate massive modern imaging sensors.
Rigorous Thermal Controls
To ensure immediate optical performance, the honeycomb CNC-machined aluminium primary mirror cell houses 3 controllable cooling fans. This active thermal management system rapidly establishes thermal equilibrium, minimizing internal tube currents and stabilizing your views right from the start of your observing session.
Heavy-Duty 3″ CERES Focuser
Every ODK14Tr is equipped as standard with our precision-engineered 3” CERES focuser, featuring a 10:1 reduction Crayford system for ultra-fine adjustments. Offering a substantial 210mm of back-focal distance from the rear of the mirror cell, this configuration provides ample room to mount heavy, complex imaging trains without flexure—including filter wheels, adaptive optics, and large-format cameras.
Each ODK14Tr is custom-built to bespoke standards in the UK. Tailored dovetail mount plates, internal dew heaters, and custom structural upgrades
