Elite 3-Element Corrector Technology
While competitor models often settle for simplified 2-lens correctors to reduce manufacturing costs, the ODK18Tr utilizes our premium, integrated 3-lens multi-coated corrector system. Computer-optimized to deliver the best optical performance available anywhere in the world, this design yields a flawless, aberration-free flat field extending well over 52mm. It delivers pinpoint star profiles across large-format sensors, rendering the most elusive galaxies, nebulae, and planetary details with stunning contrast. [1, 2]
Carbon Fibre Truss Observatory Engineering
Managing a 450mm primary mirror demands structural perfection. The ODK18Tr is constructed with an advanced open carbon fibre sandwich truss framework. This framework guarantees extreme structural rigidity to prevent component flexure, while offering a near-zero thermal expansion coefficient. As temperatures fluctuate throughout night-long imaging runs, the telescope locks its focal position securely in place, drastically reducing the need to run disruptive automated refocusing routines.
Heavy-Duty 3″ CERES Focuser & Back Focus
To comfortably support heavy modern imaging trains—including large-format cameras, heavy filter wheels, off-axis guiders, and adaptive optics—the ODK18Tr is equipped as standard with our specialized 3” CERES focuser. Featuring a precise 10:1 reduction Crayford mechanism, it offers a highly generous back-focal distance from the rear of the mirror cell, ensuring an ultra-rigid platform with completely flexure-free operation.
Advanced Flotation Cell & Thermal Management
The primary mirror is supported by a bespoke honeycomb CNC-machined aluminium flotation mirror cell, carefully optimized to prevent any mechanical stress or optical distortion. To counteract boundary layer air currents and bring the large mirror to ambient temperature rapidly, the assembly integrates 3 controllable cooling fans. This ensures stable, tack-sharp wavefront performance from the moment your observatory roof opens.
